A rapist who has been jailed for raping a woman has a very high possibility that he contracted HIV as a result of the sexual attack he inflicted upon his victim.

Rapist Richard Thomas HIV

27-year-old Richard Thomas of Leigh in Greater Manchester was thrown into the slammer for five years for raping a woman. When the police informed him about the woman’s HIV virus after he had been convicted, he fainted. After he recovered from the initial shock, Thomas requested to be taken to hospital for tests to be done. He is currently still waiting for the results to indicate if he has contracted the incurable virus or not.

The woman he raped was not a stranger to him. However, he had no idea that she was HIV positive before he carried out the dirty deed.

Thomas had let himself into her home in the middle of the night and she woke up to find him raping her.

“She froze and no words were exchanged. He pulled up his shorts and left,” Prosecuter Harry Pepper said. “He was arrested and interviewed and said he had been drinking heavily, taken cocaine and ecstasy and could not recall the incident.”

Virginia Hayton, Thomas’ lawyer, alleged that Thomas still can’t remember sexually violating the woman, but when he was told about his crime, he did not put up a fight and simply said that the woman, “would not lie, she tells the truth. If she says I have done it, I have done it.”

Jailed for five years and four months, Judge Mark Brown said that he had committed “this dreadful offence” while she lay asleep, having taken a sleeping pill. The incident had left her feeling distressed and anxious.

Thomas pleaded guilty to sexually assaulting the woman on 20 July 2013, and Judge Brown had him sign the Sex Offenders’ Register for life.

Lawyer Hayton spoke of Thomas, who had previous convictions but none involving sexual offences, to be “remorseful” and said that he “cannot understand why he did it and it is troubling him”.

She also said that Thomas had been using cannabis at the age of nine and drinking alcohol in large amounts by the age of 11. He became addicted to ecstasy and cocaine when he was 13 and was then put into childcare when he turned 14.

Thomas has been trying to contact his family which consists of his partner, their daughter and two other older daughters from previous relationships but none of them want anything to do with him.

As to Thomas’ chances of contracting HIV, Miss Hayton said, “It is his own fault, if he had not committed this offence he would not have placed himself in this position.”

Well he deserved it. Karma definitely screwed him over big time.
