PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals) is an American animal activist organization notorious for their controversial publicity stunts. They claim to represent the best interest of animals but a recent scandal just emerged shedding light on their hypocrisy as evidence shows that 2,000 animals pass through their front door annually and very few make it out alive. (WARNING: Contents and photos in this article may upset you.)
PETA is the largest animal rights organization in the world boasting more than 3 million members and supporters. According to their website, their main focus is to improve the livelihood of the animals they think suffer the most intensely for the longest periods of time on factory farms, in clothing trade, in laboratories and in the entertainment industry. Their slogan is “animals are not ours to eat, wear, experiment on, use for entertainment or abuse in any way,” but apparently according to documented proof, animals are for them to put down without so much as spending any effort adopting them out to good homes.
In 2012 alone, PETA euthanized 89.4% of the animals they received. These poor animals are sent to PETA with the intention of giving them a second shot in life but they are put down without a second thought and their bodies temporarily stored in a US$9,370 freezer installed solely for this purpose. The frozen bodies are then regularly picked up by Pet Cremation Services of Tidewater and incinerated. This entire inhumane process is paid for by the donations of animal-lovers who have no idea that their well-intended contributions would go to the mass murder of thousands of innocent lives.
PETA's “Meat is Murder”controversial publicity campaign
In fact, over the past 11 years, PETA has massacred a staggering amount of 29,426 perfectly healthy animals. It is probably very difficult for animal-lovers to believe that their kindly donations are going towards ending the lives of these animals but there is concrete evidence showing that PETA is a hypocritical, unfeeling organization whose interest seem to primarily lie in organizing attention-grabbing publicity stunts rather than improving the lives of animals.
The PETA headquarters is based in Norfolk, Virginia. Even though PETA states that they believe “that animals have rights and deserve to have their best interests taken into consideration, regardless of whether they are useful to humans”, it does not seem to be the case at all. What they ACTUALLY believe in that they do not mention, is that people have a right to kill animals as long as it is done “humanely”, which in PETA terms mean poisoning them with an overdose of barbiturates, even if the animals are not suffering from any illnesses or wounds.
PETA defends themselves by blatantly LYING that all of the animals they kill are “unadoptable”. This is a complete, outright lie as numerous rescue groups, individuals, and veterinarians have come forward testifying that the animals they have passed over to PETA were healthy and adoptable. Former employees and interns have even admitted to PETA's monstrous acts, with one intern reporting that he quit in disgust after personally witnessing perfectly healthy, adorable and chubby puppies and kittens put down in the killing room.
“It is a lie because PETA refuses to provide its criteria for making the determination as to whether or not an animal is “unadoptable.” It is a lie because according to a state inspector, the PETA facility where the animals are impounded was designed to house animals for no more than 24 hours. It is a lie because Ingrid Newkirk herself admitted as much during a television interview: when asked whether or not PETA kills healthy animals, she responded, “Absolutely.” It is a lie because PETA staff have described the animals they have killed as “healthy,” “adorable” and “perfect.” It is a lie because PETA itself admits it does not believe in “right to life for animals.” And it is a lie because when asked what sort of effort PETA routinely makes to find adoptive homes for animals in its care, PETA had no comment.”
PETA would rather kill puppies and kittens than wear fur
PETA has a whooping $36 million budget each year but they could not be bothered to spend a little extra money finding homes for the thousands of unloved animals which is why they commit to mass homicide. PETA President Ingrid Newkirk previously indicated that they could stop killing animals, but it would mean cutting down on press stunts and celebrity photo shoots: “We could become a no-kill shelter immediately. It means we wouldn't do as much work.” Because obviously, those photoshoots depicting fake-happy people with cute puppies and kittens (which will eventually be killed after the photoshoot) are so much more important than finding homes for the little ones, right?
In 2012, 733 dogs entered the PETA's building, and 602 left the backdoor cold and motionless. 1,110 cats were impounded and 1,045 of that number was put to death. They also took in 34 other companion animals, such as rabbits, of which 28 were killed. Only a small handful of these animals were actually adopted.

PETA described these animals as “adorable” and “perfect.” A veterinarian who gave PETA some of the animals and examined the dead bodies of others testified that they were “healthy” and “adoptable.”

A mother cat and her two kittens, all perfectly healthy and adoptable and none in danger of being killed until PETA got them. They were given to PETA by a veterinarian who was trying to find them homes and was told by PETA employees that they would have no problem adopting them out. After PETA lied to him and the mother and her kittens were entrusted to their care, they killed them, within minutes, in the back of a van.

Despite $35,000,000 in annual revenues and millions of “animal-loving” members, PETA does not even try to find them homes. PETA has no adoption hours, does no adoption promotion, has no adoption floor, but is registered with the State of Virginia as a “humane society.” An investigation by the Department of Agriculture found that PETA’s shelter is too small for the volume of animals, is designed to warehouse and kill animals in the shortest amount of time, roughly 90% within 24 hours. An intern quit in disgust after he saw healthy puppies in the kill room.
An animal rights organization heartlessly murdering animals and frivolously dumping their bodies in trash bags and rubbish bins like they are mere garbage should not be allowed to operate at all. In fact, their president and all the employees who condone this should be charged with animal cruelty.
The longer PETA is allowed to run, the more animals they will kill. When you donate to PETA, you are not only advocating the mass killing of animals, you are giving PETA the opportunity to grow bigger and murder more animals with each subsequent year. Do not let PETA's atrocities go unfound, if you have a heart, please share this as people need to know what goes on behind the scenes that PETA is so desperately trying to cover up, please share this to prevent more innocent lives from being lost.
