The following is a conversation overheard at a coffee shop. The names have been changed to protect the conversationalists identity but here's the gist of their conversation.
Lup Cheong: Oi, Johnny!!! Come have a drink with me!
Johnny: Wa Lup Cheong you're in a good mood. What happened?
Lup Cheong: Of course I'm in a good mood. You didn't see the news? WP's Sylvia Lim suaned the PA yesterday! She questioned the PA's "ever increasing" budget and whether it had moved away from its original mandate.
Johnny: I see.
Lup Cheong: She even went on to ask why the PA is getting close to one billion dollars for its 2016 budget. Huat ah! I feel so shiok reading about what she did: This is exactly why I voted for the WP, so they can keep an eye on how my tax money is being spent by this G!
Johnny: Hahahaha...this is hilarious!
Lup Cheong: Eh, why are you laughing?! This isn't funny ok!
Johnny: Of course its funny. Its funny for Sylvia Lim to attack anyone over money matters because she still hasn't resolved her own town council money issues.
Lup Cheong: This again...
Johnny: Yes, this again. I've said it before and I'll say it again: The WP has no leg to stand on as long as they continue to let their town council matter drag on. Sylvia questioning the PA's budget just feels like another attempt on her party's part to deflect any public attention over their own internal mess.
Lup Cheong: sigh...but I still think the points about the PA being partisan are still valid issues. Just look at how she mentioned the CCCs and RCs undermine her!
Johnny: I agree. But the G has already rebutted her liao. I really think she and her party need to stop playing the victim card. It's getting very tiresome and makes them look ineffectual.
Lup Cheong: But Chiam See Tong has also repeatedly spoken about the issue of the "PA's partisanship" during his time in parliament le.
Johnny: Oh ya, I forgot about that.
Lup Cheong: That's why I still think that it was valid for Sylvia to question the G about the PA's "partisanship" despite what you've said about the WP's credibility being undercut. It's an issue that's been around for over 20 years liao. It is a matter of public interest that the G resolve it once and for all.
Johnny: I suppose you're right. I just think that Sylvia's line of questioning would have had more bite to it if her party wasn't burdened by their own issues.
Lup Cheong: sigh. What to do?
Johnny: One thing about the PA's budget though. Have you ever noticed how the activities offered by the Community Clubs are so affordably priced for residents?
Lup Cheong: Ya I noticed they have an upcoming Mother's Day celebration at my CC priced at $10 per pax.
Johnny: The CCs' are probably keeping things affordable through the budget the PA gets from the G.
Lup Cheong: Oh yea? I hadn't considered that point until you mentioned it...
