What happens when a video game villain throws in the towel and decides he wants to be the hero instead?
Bad guy character Ralph (John C. Reilly) is sick and weary of living in the shadows of Fix-It Felix (Jack McBrayer) who always get to play the hero. So off he goes on a journey to prove his ability to be a hero. In this hilarious journey, he meets tough cookie Sergeant Calhoun (Jane Lynch) who teaches him a thing or two. He also creates trouble for Vanellope von Schweetz (Sarah Silverman) from candy-coated cart racing game Sugar Rush when he sets free a potentially fatal enemy in her world. Now that Ralph has created his own crisis, will he rise to the role of a hero and save the day?
Considering this is a Disney production, usually aimed at the younger audience, Wreck-It Ralph is a tad too violent for comfort though it tries to compensate for this by being overly cute and sweet in other parts. The visuals are great but this Disney creation, the head company which has taken over Pixar, fails to deliver any emotion the latter is famous for.
Still, the film will delight the generation of Space Invaders, Pac Man, Sonic the Hedgehog, Street Fighter and more as they see their old heroes come to live on screen. Kids as well as the kids in adults are likely to enjoy this colourful piece by avoiding putting too much thought into the plot as well as its mechanics. You might also like: The Intouchables
