If you ever felt like tackling an annoying colleague or a friend down but used all of your willpower to refrain from doing so because you might lose your job or the friendship, there is an alternative to vent all that frustration without that person getting hurt! Introducing BubbleSoccer.sg
, where everyone will be encased in a huge protective bubble ball and the aim of the game is to knock over as many of the opposing team members to win!
Of course, this is also a great team bonding exercise, and regardless of whether you have an amicable relationship with the members of the opposing team, you will end up having a ball of fun and share loads of laughter with your friends/colleagues with the perks of an intense work out.
Each session booked with BubbleSoccer.sg will come along with a couple of trained facilitators who will ensure the safety of players, take photos for memories, and go through the rules of four different games – bubble soccer, bubble captain, bubble dodgeball and bubble invasion. BubbleSoccer.sg is a huge hit with big groups of friends and companies alike with some of the conglomerates like Google, Nokia, Citibank and Credit Suisse who have looked to them to host large scale company events.
When I tried it out with a couple of friends, as soon as we donned on our “bubbles”, we immediately started bumping into each other, enjoying the freedom it gives us to ram into a friend without any grievious repercussions. I believe that everyone has an intrinsic violent tendency that stems from our hard-wired survival instincts and the natural fight-or-flight response, and you are able to fully release that during this exercise.
There is a bit of disorientation when you are knocked over for the first time, but you will get used to it pretty quickly and you might even enjoy the brief moment of flying through the air before landing on the ground and rolling around in your soft, cushy cocoon.
The games you play will train practically every muscle group in your body. You would be running around with a 10kg ball strapped on to you (like a backpack) with handgrips on the interior, and whenever you get knocked over, you would have to use your legs and arms to push the ball up from the ground, so it can get pretty tiring. However, the weight of the bubble is properly distributed so it does not seem very heavy and some of my weaker female friends who can't even open the caps of plastic bottles were able to play on for an hour straight. I am not being sexist here, some of these girls are really quite scrawny and weak as they have little to none exercise for years, but they are still able to go through with all the games and have fun in the process.
With all the heavy lifting and running around, you will tend to crave for more oxygen but since the bubble is enclosed all around you, it will get stuffy and you will find it hard to breathe. The trick is to stay calm, and slightly bend over so that fresh air can enter the passage at the top.
At the end of the session, we were all exhausted but happy from all the cortisol and endorphins released in the process, and slightly healthier than we were before we started. The one problem I had was the smell inside the bubble. BubbleSoccer.sg assures us that each bubble is thoroughly cleansed and sanitized after every session, but the stench of players' body ordors before me still lingered in that ball and I was hit by it as soon as I put it on. I eventually got used to it as I played on, but it is still not very pleasant. Hopefully BubbleSoccer.sg will find a way to fully remove the smell after every session, but aside from that, it was a uniquely fun experience in spending quality time with my friends.
