New independent cinema operator FilmGarde has opened its new flagship cineplex at Iluma mall beside Bugis street, the second of its first cineplex at Kallang Leisure Centre. Freshgrads checks out newcomer on the block - which hosted the Singapore International Film Festival's Silver Screen Awards - and what it has to offer.
Other than old boys like Shaw, Eng Wah and Golden Village (GV), Singaporeans now have another alternative in FilmGarde. The new cinema operator, situated at Kallang Leisure Park and Iluma at Bugis, offers spacious high back seats and accompanying luxurious leg-room in a spacious cineplex halls equipped with Digital Theatre System (DTS) and Dolby Digital Surround Ex system comparable to its competitors. FilmGarde is also the only cineplex in Singapore to offer the JBL 3-way surround sound system for medium-sized halls.
Upon reaching, a long queue was observed. With more than 20 people in the queue, there was only one staff in service though to her credit, she was efficient and polite. Fortunately, like other established brands, FilmGarde provides online and phone bookings so movie viewers have the choice to skip the queue.
Instead, two out of the three available staff were fiddling with their popcorn machine which seems to be giving them much problems. Also, on two out of the three occasions FreshGrads was there, the machine was down. The last time, the machine looks so grumpy, we were not brave enough to risk a badly made popcorn.
Nonetheless, FreshGrads would recommend giving the new kid a chance. Hop down to FilmGarde at Iluma since there is a better chance getting seats for a good movie over the weekends. Really, the seats are great. Just pardon the understaffed service and skip the popcorn. FilmGarde
