Got to shorten the new pants you just purchased at the Mango sales or need a quick fix for your new dress? Why bother making a trip down to the heartland seamstress and yet another trip to collect it when you could have it easily done at Alteration Initiative, which also happens to be conveniently located at Dhoby Ghaut X-Change? What's more, make your alterations there for a good cause.
Alteration Initiative offers alteration services starting from $8 and, unlike typical heartland alteration stores, provides properly furnished fitting rooms for taking measurements and ensuring that the alterations are done to your satisfaction. Though the alterations may cost a tad more than the heartlands, customers can be assured of its quality as every single alteration goes through the checks of a senior alteration staff.
But more than just an alteration service, Alteration Initiative is also a social enterprise that hires an often overlooked group of people – single mothers – as seamstresses. There, single moms, who often face the dilemma of having to meet financial needs while having to look after their kids, work flexible shifts and are paid a competitive $8 to $12 an hour. And besides employment opportunities, they are also given the opportunity to be trained by veteran seamstress Sue Lee, who works full time with fashion label Womb.
Now, where else could you have your clothes conveniently altered and contribute to a good cause at the same time? Alteration Initiative
