The Jackson Plan

I am sure you have heard of Sir Stamford Raffles and William Farquhar back in the colonial days of Singapore. But you will never know the unsung hero was actually Lieutenant Philip Jackson. The engineer was the brains behind colonial Singapore’s original town plan in 1822.

This is the inspirational story behind The Jackson Plan – the latest opening by restaurateur Beppe de Vito, also behind Forlino and il Lido restaurants, who brings together his passions for travel and exploring different cultures – which serves up wholesome, hearty, true British style cuisines that you have never expected to find locally. Among the spoiled-for-choice menu selections, the must-tries are the Potted Smoked Mackerel ($13.90), Saltmarsh Lamb ($28), Fisherman’s Pie ($25.50) and the Lancashire Hot Pot ($23.50). For the adventurous, you will definitely love the Beef Shin with bone marrow and potato cakes ($25.50). Rounding off the meal, delightful desserts like the Farquhar Mess ($11.50) and Eccles Cakes ($10.50) are definitely a great choice!

As the food is served mostly in hearty portions which are best enjoyed in a communal style, I would recommend heading down in a larger group. As the saying goes, the more the merrier! More than that, isn’t sharing the bill a more economical way to go?

Paying tribute to all-things colonial, a signature set of specialty Cups and Punches such as the traditional Pimm’s No. 1 Cup ($10.50) , Queen's Cup (Double shots of Vodka, Tomato, Cucumber, Lemon, Masala, $12.50), and the Coolie's Cup (Run, Absinth, Kalamansi, Mint, Gula Melaka, Cinnamon, $13.50) will be great choices to quench the thirst from Singapore’s  crazy weather.

For those hankering after a heartier bite, an all new weekday 3-course set lunch is available at The Jackson Plan for only $18.50 ++ for a Soup of the Day, a choice of their Daily Special Main Courses, plus coffee or tea to get you pumped up for work again!

Soups will include crocks like Cullen Skink (a thick Scottish soup of haddock, potatoes and onions), Potato Cream, Green Asparagus, and mains will see Fish & Chips, Sheppard’s Pie and Steak & Stout Pie.

The set lunch is available on weekdays from 11.30 am to 2.30 pm. Besides the set lunch being a pretty awesome deal for a wholesome meal, you must check out their happy hour (3pm to 7pm) everyday for house pours at only $5++ per glass! House pours include beers and spirits.

Now, as their tagline says, go eat, drink and be merry! At The Jackson Plan, of course!
