The Shoppes at Marina Bay Sands is home to some of the most outstanding restaurants Singapore has to offer, but diners tend to avoid taking their food-hunting adventures there as they assume that fine dining goes along hand in hand with an exorbitant bill at the end of the meal. This might be so for some but Caffé B though is a restaurant in MBS that deviates from the rest in which it offers exceptionally delectable dishes that is both easy on the eyes and the wallet, especially with its newly launched 5-course dinner menu that we can't stop raving about.
It is hard to miss this glittering treasure trove of gastronomical delights as you stroll through the Shoppes at MBS. You will be greeted at the entrance with a huge smile by a friendly waiter standing against the backdrop of a massive glass wine rack and a gorgeous, contemporary bronze fixture that looks like a work of art by itself.
The shimmering crystal chandeliers that adorn the restaurant gives a classy and romantic ambience to the already elegantly designed interior as the warm glow of the light is reflected off the crystal facets, shining bursts of fire and ice around the place.
Caffé B is a social dining and bar concept that marries the best of Italian culinary traditions with the artful finesse of Japanese culture. The Italian-Japanese fushion restaurant prides itself in offering quality Italian cuisine with a light touch of Japanese influences in a posh and relaxed setting, alongside fine Italian and unique Japanese wines that you can request to be paired with different dishes.
Private dining room that sits up to 15 pax
After experiencing a deluge of famished crowds following its highly successful and popular set lunches, Caffé B launched its very first series of set dinner menus that have been meticulously tailored by its very talented chefs specially to treat fastidious diners at the end of a long day of toil. The result is a mind-blowing 5-course dinner menu that is not only aesthetically pleasing to the eyes, but also an explosion of gastronomical delight to the the taste buds.
Foccacia Bread served with Butter and Olive Tapenade
The 5-course dinner set menu is digestibly priced at only $65 per pax, with an extra $30 option for wine pairing for the different dishes upon your selection. Prior to your courses being served, complimentary sliced Focaccia Bread will be brought to your table along with some butter and individual saucers of olive tapenade – a blended mix of black olive, anchovies and garlic. Slather some butter and olive tapenade on the focaccia bread to curb those hunger pangs while you eagerly await the arrival of your hand-crafted dishes.
First Course – Amuse Bouche
The dinner menu starts off with a light salad – Amuse Bouche. It is a refresing spoonful of a croccantini, porcini and mesculin salad that consists of a tangy marinate drizzled over a fresh bed of spring greens lying atop grilled golden brown porcini mushrooms and sandwiched between two pieces of rustic crackers. The crisp crackers lends a wonderful texture to the tenderness of the grilled mushrooms, resulting in a savory and stimulating mouthfeel. This first dish will awaken the tastebuds to prepare them for the taste explosion that will soon follow for the other courses on the menu.
Second Course - Antipasto
The Antipasto is a classic English appetizer with a Japanese twist. A fresh bed of greens blanketing diced nashi pears separates two pieces of smoked salmon, one topped with cornichon and the other with capers. The saltiness of the smoked salmon goes extremely well with the crunchy cornichon and capers which lend a hint of sourness to the fish. The diced Japanese nashi pears are juicy, crunchy and extraordinarily sweet which offsets the slight bitterness of the dewy greens, and balances the savory appetizer to appropriately whet even the tiniest of appetites.
Third Course - Zuppa
Diners can look forward to a hearty, comforting Soup of the Day prepared from scratch daily with fresh, all natural ingredients by the dedicated chefs of Caffé B.
Fourth Course – Main
You will be given the choice to select from three main courses, all of which are extremely mouth-watering in its own unique way.
1. Risotto Simmered Al Dente
Risottos are hard to pull off. A good risotto should be creamy, but yet the rice should have a nice bite to it without being too mushy. Caffé B's risotto is the epitome of perfect risottos. Simmered in vegetable stock with sauteed myoga (Japanese ginger), carrots, celery, leeks, and topped with fresh shaven parmesan cheese, this dish has a creamy texture with the right amount of parmesan without being too cheesy and “sickening”. The diced vegetables give the risotto a refreshing taste and a good crunch to prevent it from being too overwhelming. Buttery and light, this risotto will prove a hit with any non-meat lovers.
2. Oven-Roasted Lamb Rack
Like how Johnny Depp is in the movies where he plays as one of the side characters, especially in Pirates of the Caribbean, this is the dish that stole the show. Like in Lord of the Rings, this is the one dish to rule them all. Like how The Rock is in Sports Entertainment, this is the most electrifying dish in Caffé B's set menu. You get my drift. The Oven-Roasted Lamb Rack is lovingly marinated overnight with honey mustard then cooked and laid seductively over a fluffy pile of mashed pumpkin, served with chilled mint jelly, and drizzled with its own lamb juices. Take a bite of a piece of lamb together with the pumpkin mousse, honey mustard and chilled mint jelly for a heavenly explosion of pure ecstasy on your tastebuds. The combination of the tender, juicy lamb, cooked medium-rare as recommended by the chef, with the subtly sweet pumpkin mousse collaborates with the refreshing sweetness of the mint jelly and the kick of the honey mustard to create the perfect symphony of flavors in this succulent dish.
3. Chicken Picatta
The Chicken Picatta is a traditional Italian dish bursting with zesty flavors, drenched in shiitake tomato cream sauce and served with a side of crunchy buttered asparagus. With its fun and bright colors, this dish will perk up any dreary day. The Chicken Picatta starts off by being baked in the oven to retain its inner juices then pan-fried and served up with the tomato cream sauce and shiitake mushrooms. The end result is a unique chicken breast dish with a scrumptious golden-brown outer layer with the insides being firm yet juicy when you cut into it. The creamy tomato sauce gives a more three-dimensional flavor to the chicken with its thick, silken tanginess.
Fifth Course – Dolci
Finish off your dinner with a divine treat that is bound to leave you contented and in high spirits; a dessert made of light decks of buttery wafer pastry alternates with layers of velvety, rich chocolate mousse and topped with a dusting of cocoa powder. The pastry wafers are crunchy and flaky which creates an excellent contrast with the fluffy chocolate mousse that melts in your mouth. A splash of raspberry coulis and wild berries gives this dessert a slight hint of sourness which balances out the sweetness of the chocolate mousse pastry.
