You swirl your wine while the wind whips through your hair, and gaze out at the gorgeous Singapore skyline of towering skyscrapers illuminated by the rose-gold tint of the setting sun. As you unwind at Caffé B Bar after a long day, soaking in the tranquil ambience and calming jazz music being played over the speakers, the only thing missing now to complete the entire pleasurable sensory experience would be some really great bar grub to tantalize your tastebuds.
Caffé B's spanking new bar bites menu of 8 Italian-Japanese fusion dishes will put other bar food to shame. While other bars serve up boring, overused and uninspiring dishes like truffle fries, spam fries, popcorn chicken, and the usual stuff that we are all sick and tired of, Caffé B treats every dish they create for the bar with the exact same finesse, dedication and passion as Leonardo da Vinci and Kitarō for their artistic and melodious masterpieces respectively.
Crispy Maguro Taco, $15
These mini taco shells are made from scratch in house and baked to a crispy perfection. Freshly diced bluefin tuna that has been marinated in yellow miso is then piled into the taco and topped with sliced avocado and shredded vegetables tossed in rice vinegar. The end result is a crunchy treat that crumbles in your mouth with a burst of freshness and brininess and a very soft, melty texture from the buttery tuna.
Deep Fried Potato Skin, $16
Four chunky wedges of potato skin that have been deep fried to achieve a crispy exterior is loaded up with chili con carne, sealed in with melted mozarella cheese, finished off with a few sprigs of coriander and served with a side of sour cream. This is hearty bar grub with no frills and fuss. There is no way you can go wrong with ordering this delicious, tangy, spicy, meaty, cheesy and crispy finger food to pair with any alcoholic drinks.
Chicken & Japanese Leek Skewers, $14
Surprisingly juicy chunks of chicken breast skewered with Japanese leek are grilled till the exterior slightly caramelizes and develops a sweet and smoky slightly charred flavor. The chicken chunks are marinated with yoghurt, paprika, lemon juice and cajun prior to being grilled, and it extremely flavorful with a strong peppery taste. It is topped with a creamy ball of mozarella cheese to provide a nice tart start to the grilled dish.
Beef Cheek Patty, $19
Hand on my heart, this is one of the most divine dishes I have ever had in my life. The magnum opus of Caffé B Bar Bites, this gorgeous floral garden is as good to look at as it is to eat, which is usually not the case with aesthetically pleasing food. The beef cheek is slow-cooked in red wine to achieve a buttery-soft texture while absorbing all the flavors of the red wine to intensify the beefy goodness. I was completely blown away when I tried to dig into the beef cheek patty with a knife and fork only to discover that there was no resistance, the meat completely gave way like Moses parting the Red Sea upon the slightest touch.
The beef cheek patty disintegrates in your mouth like a spoonful of extremely delicious and flavorful beefy butter that is slightly viscous and sticky from the abundance of collagen found in the cheek portion. The slice of cheese and rasher of bacon that crowns the patty adds more flavor and textural depth with its creaminess and saltiness. The beef cheek is served alongside rocket salad, roma tomato, glazed beet root, sliced red onion and Japanese roasted sesame sauce. My advice? Do not order the beef cheek patty to share, you should have one plate all to yourself, and even that one plate may not even be enough to quelch your appetite for this heavenly dish.
Miso Chilean White Cod Burger, $19
White Cod specially imported from Chile is cubed and coated with miso, egg, mirin and bread crumbs. It is sandwiched between two slider brioche buns along with caramelized onions, tomato, ricotta cheese and topped with a tiny gherkin. The cod is delicate, light, flaky and buttery which perfectly contrasts with the crispy and crunchy breaded exterior. The caramlized onions and tomato helps to add a sweet taste to the savory breaded fish, the ricotta cheese gives a creamy and crumbly texture, and the gherkin is optional for that burst of briny sourness.
Smoked Salmon on Almond Biscuit, $15
Sweet and salty make up the primary tastes in this classic antipasto prepared with a twist. Instead of regular crackers to accompany the smoked salmon, warm toasted almond biscuits are used instead. The almond biscuits are sweet, buttery and dense and slathered with guacamole that provides a refreshingly creamy flavor. The smoked salmon slices which have been tossed in garlic, Italian parsley, and extra virgin olive oil are extremely aromatic with a smoky saltiness. The sweetness from the almond biscuits helps to offset the saltiness of the smoked salmon, and these two contrasting flavors work very well together.
Beef Tripe Burger, $20
If you can stomach beef tripe, you might like this pair of exotic sliders. Braised till tender, yet retaining its springy and bouncy texture, most of the flavor from the tripe comes from the sauce that it is braised in, savory and sweet with a little hint of herbs. The tripe is packed with tomatoes, caramelized onions and red cheddar cheese, finished off with a slice of pickled jalapeño.
Wagyu Rump Beef Burger, $24
Caffé B never fails to impress me with the superior quality of its ingredients. My brain automatically expected to have to do some pulling and tugging at the beef strips as I bit into the slider, but I was pleasantly surprised when my teeth easily sank through the meat like a hot knife to butter. The wagyu rump is grilled to a seductive medium-rare so that it retains all its juices and marbled fats for that extremely tender and succulent bite. The sesame buns are slathered with peanut butter for a richer and creamier mouthfeel, and packed with tomatoes, caramelized onions and red cheddar cheese.
