Getting from College to Career: 90 Things to Do Before You Join the Real Worlds by Lindsey Pollak promises to give fresh graduates an edge on entering the work force.
The book provides in-depth instructions on how to change your mindset from "student" to "professional", how to educate yourself on the job market and the world such as on office politics and characters, how to start your career search including employing social media, how to network with other professionals, how to gain experience in the world and right down to even how to write your resume. It also has a specific focus on the importance of networking and how to go about doing so.
Instead of nagging a tad too much, Author Pollak could do with packing in more tips. Also, rigid readers may find themselves having to become another person to turn "professional" – my recommendation to this would be to be selective on which tips and what advice to follow rather than jumping in blindly. For example, tips such as "Buy a Dark Suit" might be just a little outdated for some of us.
Nonetheless, "Getting from College to Career: 90 Things to Do Before You Join the Real World", which quizzes readers reflective questions and hence helpful as a guide for self-discovery, makes a great gift for a friend or family who is currently in college, or a friend who has no idea where his or her career should head.
