More than just a gourmet coffee joint, named after popular manga of the same name, which means "House of the Moment", Maison Ikkoku along Kandahar Street at Kampong Glam is a concept store that is home to a cafe on level one, a mens fashion boutique on level two and a bar on the third and top level.
What first drew our attention to this rather obscure shop would be the high-end mens' fashion collections and accessories area housed on level two. Notable are international cult brands from UK, USA and Japan. One good example would be denim label Kuro, which is known for being in full control of its whole production process from textile creation to dyeing.
When you are done with the retail therapy, drop by level one for a cuppa. With a plush yet minimalist interior, the cafe on the ground floor is a cosy place for a chat with your shopping buddies while resting your feet. The baristas at Maison Ikkoku are trained by top Japanese celebrity barista and latte art expert, Hiroshi Sawada, so you can be assured of top quality brews too. If you are hungry, Maison Ikkoku serves up the MI Musubi at $3 a piece. For something more potent, head up to level three for cocktails and some light bites. Or simply to people watch the fashionable indie folks about Haji Lane from top view. You might also like: G.O.D
