Your best travel companion is here to meet all your needs and solve the issue of overpacking on your voyage around the world! Introducing the PowearIN2.0 – an ingenious design of a jacket that will see you through the hottest summers and the harshest winters with over 20 smart, well designed inbuilt storage units for your travel essentials.
“WHAT?! Another travel jacket?!” you exclaim incredulously. As if the PR nightmare that is Baubax is not enough to put you at bay or completely swear off pledging for an additional travel jacket on Kickstarter. All I can say is, do not lose faith in the ambitious dreams that other inventors bring to the table because of a bad experience with a previous company, hear them out, and then make an informed decision.
The CEO, Henry Zhu, who is behind PowearIN2.0 has personally reached out to me with his story and how the jacket came to be. I rest easy after a long exchange of words knowing that the money I pledged for the Kickstarter project is in good hands. Henry expressed his utmost sincerity and passion towards his vision and gratitude towards current and future backers who are supporting his campaign.
The birth of the PowearIN2.0 travel jacket came about in a gathering amongst friends back in December 2014 in a generic Starbucks outlet. Henry and his friends were lamenting about the problems they faced with all the heavy portable electronic devices and its insufficient battery lives while traveling – a very real first world problem in this technological age. There are so many things to carry on your travels but yet so little space to store them, and the clothes we wear have simply not advanced as technology has. So someone said, “What if we designed an article of clothing that can realistically meet all our demands? What if we focused on the daily needs of the public instead of purely fashion?”
Following which, the dream team was created comprising of fashion designers, structural designers, and electronic engineers who have been in the business for years. After six months of research and development, design and preparation, the team started their first crowd-funding project in October 2015. Unfortunately, things did not go as smoothly as they had hoped. The cost of making one jacket came out to be way higher than expected, the jacket's design was compromised as they focused too heavily on the features, there was not enough color options, and there was the problem of redundant equipment. So rather than push on with the project, Henry decided to pull it out from under the rug as it did not meet his stringent expectations and start all over again.
Sweat, blood and tears were poured into the project to make it better than it previously was. The team negotiated with their supplier to bring down manufacturing costs and modified the jacket to allow a backer to personalize its functionality by purchasing various modules. The price was brought down by a staggering 50% without any compromise to quality, and it is available on Kickstarter for just $109 - $129. The jacket now also comes in two designs and five colors in both men and women fit.
So, where do I even begin with the array of features this jacket offers? Machine washable and water repellent, the PowearIN2.0 will comfortably suit temperatures ranging from -15°C to 22°C with the different removable liners you can pay extra as an add-on. The basic jacket already comes with a cotton liner for warmer climates, the fleece liner for 0°C to 10°C is only an additional $20, and the down-feather liner for -15°C to 0°C costs $40.
Its other features include an eye mask, a windproof face mask, a sunglasses pocket, a holder port, a pocket for long or short wallets, an earphone port, a passport and ticket pocket, a RFID-blocking pocket, a pen slot, two powerbank pockets, a key port, a tablet pocket, a phone pocket, and a metrocard pocket located on the wrist. A cool and unique feature that has never been seen before on other travel jackets would be the build-in NFC chip on the left breast pocket that would allow others to obtain your personal information (name, email, phone number, etc) just by tapping their phone against it. And if you think that all these features still do not meet your exhaustive travel requirements, you can select different modules at varying prices to go along with your basic jacket.
Like the basic jacket itself, a lot of thought and care have gone into the creation of the equipment in the additional modules. One of the most outstanding one is the Magic Control Knob which looks like a tiny button that allows the user to adjust the charging priorities on different electronic devices in the jacket, acts as a remote control to your phone's camera, and change your music.
When the weather gets too hot for a jacket, the PowearIN2.0 can easily be transformed into a messenger bag to ensure a smoother and less cumbersome transition.
PowearIN2.0 hit its target goal of $15,000 in 32 hours, and over 300 backers have pledged more than $58,000 currently with 19 more days to go. Expected delivery of the jacket is set for October 2016, which makes it the perfect jacket to purchase now just in time for winter!
