The LG AKA is quite possibly the cutest smartphone in the world. These phones have eyes, four different personalities to choose from, and they interact with you as you use them. I for one, am eagerly anticpating to get my hands on one of these as I naturally tend to gravitate towards nauseating cuteness.
These phone were initially only exclusive to Korea, but LG has decided (wise decision) to release them in more countries. Hong Kong is up first, followed by China, Taiwan, Singapore and then Turkey. These phones have removable front covers, when you slide them up, eyes will appear and depending on the personality you choose, they will interact with you accordingly, bringing some real life and emotion to what in almost every other way is a pretty normal 5-inch Android smartphone.
The LG AKA is available in four different personas, the yellow one is Eggy who frequently falls in love, the crazy Wooky in white, the soft-hearted and music-loving Soul in navy and Yo-Yo in pink who is always on a diet.
The characters' personalities are an integral part of each phone as they are woven into wallpapers, widgets and ringtones. If you shake your phone, your character eyes will become spirals to indicate that it is feeling giddy, and when your phone is low on battery, your character will look sick and lethargic.
In addition to each AKA's interactive, animated eyes, owners can customize their phones with stickers (provided), markers or paint, for a true DIY experience. This customer-centric thinking helped AKA win an iF Design Award for its unconventional approach to smartphone design.
With a global audience in mind, LG tweaked the AKA lineup by adding an emotional UX element. Some of the additional features include customizable glasses and eyebrows for each pair of eyes. Another unique UX feature is the included Art Toy figurine, which can be digitized and integrated into the phone's user experience. Snapping a photo of the accompanying figurine with AKA's Snapshoot tool creates an animated 3D version of the figure that appears alongside selfies. Other camera features come straight from LG's premium handsets and include Laser Auto Focus, Touch & Shoot and Gesture Shot.
