The view from the front window of the ramshackle bookstore looks out past a few trees to the river Seine and beyond to Notre Dame, towering high on the Ile de la Cité. No. 37 rue de la Bûcherie is home to Shakespeare and Company, a Parisian writers’ and readers’ institution, specializing in English-language literature.

In Manila, the capital city of Philippines, thousands of poverty-stricken Filipinos have set up homes in its largest cemetery which sees an average of 70 to 80 funerals per day. They live among a sea of tombs, bones and rotting bodies.

A Medieval Masterpiece: Cathedral of Orvieto

Blue skies and puffy white clouds framed the Cathedral of Orvieto (Duomo Di Orvieto) distinctly glimmering and sparkling in the bright afternoon sun as my classmates, our lecturer and myself, comfortably seated in a tour bus, made our way to Orvieto. I sat transfixed; staring out at one of the world’s most renowned cathedral, silently appreciating the beauty of its splendor from a good distance away.
