The awesome thing about living in Singapore is that this melting pot gives us the opportunity to revel in a diversity of cultural holidays and festivals. This March, we once again share the luck of the Irish as the annual St. Patrick's Day comes rolling into town for a boisterous good time.
From 17 to 19 March, Circular Road will be transformed into a pedestrian-only party zone for the weekend where festival-goers can rock out to live traditional Irish and Rock & Roll music; get up on their feet to Irish dance performances; indulge in plenty of Guinness Stout; and partake in family-friendly activities for the kids. Entry is free for all!
In accordance with the Irish culture, a St. Patrick's Day party is not complete without good music to merrily sing along to! Soak in the festivities at three different music sections – two stages and a DJ booth.
Music 18 & 19 March
Of course, the street festival will definitely have a “Traditional” Stage set up, featuring Irish Inspirational dance performances (step dancing) and The Singapore Trad Collective acoustic band that plays time-honored Irish folk songs with classic Irish instruments such as the Uilleann pipes, hammered Dulcimer, banjo and fiddle.
The second, “Rock” stage highlights Irish rock and folk-rock music acts including local and Singapore-based Irish musicians such as: Babushka (instrumental jazz, folk and world music), Gan Ainm (Singapore’s original Irish band), The Craic Horse (Celtic folk-rock-punk-funk), The Rock Rosettes (All-female Singaporean U2 tribute band) and The Shambollicks (Irish rock covers).
The hardcore party-people looking to rave out can head to the other end of Circular Road and dance the night away at the DJ booth.
Feast & Drink 1 – 31 March
Joining forces to throw one hell of a St. Patrick's party that will do the Irish proud are various bars and restaurants along Circular Road that have earnestly created special drinks and dishes for the entire month to honor the special day. These special concoctions are wittily crafted with a green twist or incorporating Guinness.
Some of the exciting Irish-centric items include Mogambo’s Guinness Punch which consists of Guinness, cinnamon, nutmeg and condensed milk at just $10; a classic and hearty Irish Lamb & Guinness Stew at Hero’s for just $18; and a green Pahadi Poulet of chicken kebabs marinated in mint at Roll Up.
Activities 18 & 19 March
Take home a souvenir of your lucky day with a couple of pictures from the instant photo booth. Kids, and of course, adults who are young at heart, can amuse themselves with face painting, balloon sculpting and a bouncy castle!
