ScreenSingapore
Organised by the Media Development Authority of Singapore (MDA) with the Singapore Tourism Board (STB) and the Economic Development Board (EDB), the inaugural ScreenSingapore serves as a common platform for media industry practitioners, producers and creative talent from all over the world to meet, exchange ideas, get updated on new technical innovations and showcase their works.

In particular, Asian content – with its mishmash of values and cultures – is thrown in the spotlight at this eight-day international film festival held from 5 to 12 June 2011. And unlike the usual festivals with just galas and screenings, ScreenSingapore will also include a trade exhibition, conference, masterclasses and workshops mostly held at Capella Singapore on Sentosa island.

For the film buffs, your expectations will soar with the knowledge that several film industry luminaries are on the board of ScreenSingapore, such as Greg Coote of Dune Entertainment which co-financed Avatar, winning director Shekhar Kapur, and Fortissimo Films chairman Michael J Werner. For the movie-goers, you will be thrilled to know that two-time Oscar-winner Tom Hanks has confirmed his attendance to the event and will be bringing his latest work, Larry Crowne, here for its Asia-Pacific premiere.

However, ticket prices at a hefty SGD400 may be a drawback for many. The good news is, Singaporeans and permanent residents (PR) enjoy a good 50 per cent off, and those under the Workforce Skills Qualifications (WSQ) scheme can get a further SGD50 off.
