If you love KFC with all your heart, and would rather die if KFC were to vanish off the face of the Earth, then this fashion accessory is absolutely perfect for you! Hard core KFC fans have come up with the ultimate way to pay homage to their favorite fast food brand by adorning their necks with gold-plated KFC bone necklaces!
Kentucky for Kentucky is the team responsible for cooking up this unique piece of jewelry. The “14kt Gold Kentucky Fried Chicken Bone Necklace” listing description reads, “We’re excited to introduce a brand spanking new Kentucky invention. An invention so kick-ass, it will change the jewelry game forever. We’ve taken one great Kentucky invention and turned it into a completely new Kentucky invention. Like Willy Wonka's 'Everlasting Gobstopper' we've figured about a way to make it possible to savor a single piece of Kentucky Fried Chicken forever. For-ever and ever. We all win.”

To create this statement piece, the folks at Kentucky for Kentucky teamed up with jewelry designer Meg C (from Kentucky). Together with her boyfriend, Meg hit up their local KFC and purchased a bucket of 25 pieces of KFC chicken. They dug in and finished every scrap of meat on the bones before dousing it with soap and water and allowing the bones to dry it in the fresh Kentucky air and sunshine. After the bones have been thoroughly cleaned and dried, they were sealed with a coat of varnish and then painted with graphite conductive paint to allow the copper to stick to them during the electroforming process.
The process is more complicated than it looks, take it from the designer herself, “After they are painted with varnish and graphite conductive paint, they have to be copper electroformed…a process of coating them with a thick layer of copper which takes about 3-4 hours per bone.  Once they are completely covered in copper they can then be gold electroplated.”

Eventually, the 20 necklaces that they retailed took about a month to finish as it involved a tedious process of trial-and-error.
Meg had a couple of fashion ideas of how to wear the gold bone necklace, “You can rock your chicken bone with a pair of jeans and a t-shirt or your little black dress. That’s the great thing about gold, it makes any outfit look fabulous. And don’t chicken bones just go with everything?”
The necklaces come in two sizes; small and large, with the former retailing at US$130 and the latter at US$160. Unfortunately, the gold chicken bone necklaces are completely out of stock on the website. But if luck has it, they might just restock it due to high demand.
