Don't you just love licking the remnants of that delicious chicken fat off your fingers after a hearty meal of fried chicken at KFC? If you can't get enough of that finger-licking goodness, KFC has just the solution for you with chicken-flavored edible nail polish that comes in two different flavors – original (beige) and Hot & Spicy (red).
The unorthodox nail polish was developed by marketing firm Ogilvy & Mather for KFC Hong Kong, in collaboration with the company that provides KFC's secret blend of herbs and spices. “Yes, it’s actually a real thing,” confirmed Ogilvy & Mather employee Anna Mugglestone. “It tastes like chicken. It’s crazy.”
Each “flavor” of nail polish comes packaged in a “designer bottle and box”. Customers can paint their nails with the product and proceed to lick their fingertips “again and again and again,” to enjoy the flavors of KFC anytime, anywhere. And if you’re worried about safety, the chain claims that the contents are “sourced from natural ingredients”.
“The recipe for our edible nail polish is unique and was specifically designed to hold the flavor, but to also dry with a glossy coat similar to normal nail polish,” said Ogilvy & Mather creative director John Koay. “This campaign is designed to be intriguing and fun to increase excitement around the KFC brand in Hong Kong.”
KFC Hong Kong has been actively promoting the nail polish on Facebook and social media over the past two weeks, even releasing a music video on Youtube with a beat-boxing lady playing on a keyboard and licking her fingers while a man busts out his dance moves.
The nail polish, that even has little flecks in it to resemble the spices embedded in KFC's chicken skin, is not available for retail yet but KFC says that it has been asking its customers to vote for their favorite flavor to go into mass production. Imagine, you literally could have chicken fingers you can suck on all day long. It is a little gross and unhygienic, but for KFC chicken fanatics, it is a dream come true.
