A Good Night's Sleep
Avoid food or drinks with caffeine such as coffee and tea as well as red wine or chocolate. These items are known to upset a peaceful sleep. In fact, avoid supper or meals just before sleep altogether. The digestion process takes time and might be an obstacle to your well resting.
Also, adjust your surroundings such as temperature and lighting so you are as comfortable as you can be and make sure you go to the washroom before you turn in so you do not have to wake up in the middle of the night, which again will disrupt your sleep.
Do slow or relaxing activities such as watching TV or just daydreaming before turning in. This would help calm you down and gradually enter into a good night's rest.
The Morning Ritual
Drinking a glass of water in the morning on your empty stomach helps get your metabolism started and also help you freshen up. And no, you cannot substitute this with coffee. Leave that wonderful concoction for a rainy day or nice evening out with your friends for the more you drink it, the less effective it becomes.
Take a deep, deep breath, stretch a bit on the bed and imagine a bright sunny happy day. Cheesy yes but effective definitely. It would be better if you actually have something to look forward to – visualise that instead. Make it a Habit
If you turn in at 2am every night and have to wake up for work at 6am. It is no wonder if you can't crawl out of bed every morning. While not everyone requires a good eight hours of sleep, having regular bedtimes will help you wake up on time without much fuss.
Rather than jumping right into sleeping at 10pm and waking up at 6am. Slowly adjust your timings gradually to the ideal bedtimes, follow the morning ritual and keep to it as much as possible even during the weekends.
