Dealing with Anxiety

Delay

We are often worried about things that have not happened yet or might not even happen at all. Rather than wasting the time in between torturing yourself and worrying, why not postpone that worry until the thing happened? Use the delay tactic. Write the issues down and set yourself a reminder to worry about them the next day or when the time comes.

Distract

Distract yourself by going on a group activity such as having dinner with some really entertaining friends or attending yoga trial class. Forcing yourself to focus on a certain activity will help take your mind off the issue at hand.

Plan

If your worry is something to be dealt with, write down all that is to be down and the deadline for them. Come up with a step by step plan to do each item daily. If you can come up with timetable, this means things can be done on time and it is needless to worry. Instead, focus on doing one task at a time, concentrate on the tasks planned for the day.

List

Making a list of your specific worries, things you have to do and actually striking them out helps relieve stress. At the same time, use this list to keep things in perspective. Are these issues that truly should be pondered over? Write down possible consequences if it helps.

Mind your Mind

Ever heard of mind over matter? Our thoughts and subsequent attitude towards things can affect reality. The self-fulfilling prophesy would be a good example. We sometimes tend to care too much about what people would think of us. With this thoughts, we give ourselves undue pressure, and end up really making a mess. On the other hand, a confident and positive attitude would be much more helpful.
